Sierra Summer Conservatory
July 8-12 & July 15-19
Sierra Community Music is offering two summer workshops in chamber music for kids 5th grade through high school. The workshops will last 5 days each, from 10am-2pm, and will include individual and ensemble coaching as well as music history and music theory. These sessions are primarily for strings and piano, although if enough wind or brass players are interested they could be included also.
Faculty includes Alexandra Roedder, cello, Zoe Schlussel, violin, Lynn Schugren, piano, and Joan Tumilty, history and theory. The workshops will be held at Nevada City School for the Arts.
Tuition is $250 per session, with a non refundable deposit of $75 due by June 15. Sessions are July 8-12 and July 15-19. We welcome interested young people from 5th grade through high school. There is no audition, but the student needs to be proficient in reading music.
Playing chamber music is one of life’s great joys, and the experience and camaraderie gained in an environment of music is invaluable. Children learn to listen, to communicate, and to think about the music, all skills which can be useful in all phases of life. Plus, it is tremendous fun to make music with other people.
